Most optometrists will tell you to make sure that you have regular eye exams done. A good amount of people will take their optometrists advice and follow through with it, but a good amount of people won’t, and probably have never had a single eye exam done before in their life. Mountain Eye Care performs high quality eye exams to our customers, and they leave our offices knowing what they need to improve on, and how glasses can help them etc. Eye exams can not only tell you about the health of your eyes and vision, but also about other health aspects.

According to the Canadian Association of Optometrists, eye exams should be done on a regular basis. Eye exams on children should be done before they reach the age of 3, and have a full eye exam done every year until the age of 19. Eye exams for adults ages 20-64 should be done every 2 years, and seniors should have their eyes checked yearly.

Eye Issues.

With the advancements in technology that are present in the optometry industry, optometrists can check not only your vision, but the entire health of your eye. With regular eye exams, your optometrist will be able to record changes in your vision, and monitor you for early signs of glaucoma, cataracts, and other issues like holes or tears in your retina. An eye exam can also tell the optometrist how your eyes are functioning, and about their coordination.

Significant Health Issues.

People don’t believe this, but a simple eye exam can detect a number of serious health issues that are not related to your eyes at all. Health issues like diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, autoimmune disorders, cancers, and thyroid disease. These reasons alone should be enough to change someone’s mind about getting regular eye exams done. An optometrist usually works alongside a variety of surgical and medical professionals, so she/he will be able to refer you to someone right away if your eye exam shows any serious health issues.
